Thankful for the Opportunity

During the early morning hours, I'll grab a cup of coffee, or go for a walk, and often contemplate my "why?" Why am I here, in this position right now? Why did I give up great full-time employment to take care of my, oftentimes, feisty 89 year-old grandma, and to start my own business? Why did I move the 500 miles back home, away from friends, the beach, great seafood, and a life that was my own?

Sometimes, I'll sulk about it and think that I am not fulfilling my life goals, but more often than not, I am grateful. I am thankful. I am blessed to be given the opportunity to take care of my grandmother, despite all of those difficult days. I am blessed to be able to start my business without the distractions of a full-time job. And, when I do start to get down, because those days are real and happen, I have to say to myself "what are you grateful for? What do you want to gain from this experience? What opportunities are here for you right now" and then my "why" is answered again and I can move on to enjoying my day and further accomplishing the goals I have set out for myself.

I've learned that life is messy. It is ever changing and you don't get your time back. So, when I hear someone say that they have this awesome idea for a business, or that they want to experience something that would drastically change their life, I think to myself "do it!" Just do it. We don't know how long we have in this world, and well... why spend all of this precious time debating whether or not you should do something that your heart is telling you to do? I'm not saying to quit your job or go change your life without some sort of plan, but...I am telling you that more often than not, it's fear that's holding you back, and to just kick it to the curb. Do what's scary. Get out of your comfort zone. Once you do that, you'll realize that anything is possible.

That is why I very much enjoy caregiving and the concierge business. I have the opportunity to enjoy this time with my grandma, and the opportunity to help others enjoy their life without more complications. The whole point of the concierge industry and companion caretaking, is to assist you in your daily life. Assist in those daily routine tasks, so that you can get the most out of your time. Help you take care of family members that can't necessarily take care of themselves anymore, and alleviate that fear of leaving them alone. And, I am very grateful to do it. I am grateful for the trust and opportunity that people give me to take care of their loved ones, and to handle tasks in their lives so that they can enjoy their lives more without worrying so much.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. The overall takeaway I hope you'll get from this post is "what am I grateful for right now, and how can what I'm doing right now get me to where I want to be?" Make those 2am dreams a reality. Even if you're at work and dreading a mountain of paperwork or a meeting. Just ask yourself "what can I get out of this experience right now?" Sometimes, even those little mundane daily tasks can help lead you in the direction you want to go in.
